Highland Services – Lochaber, Inverness, Ross-shire and Sutherland

Lochaber service

The service is based in the Glengarry Centre, Fort William and offers a welcoming environment for people experiencing mental ill health to access support from our trained and experienced staff.  There are opportunities to participate in a variety of activities aimed at building self-esteem and confidence and promote recovery.

As well as opportunities within the Glengarry Centre, we support people to become more involved in what’s going on in the community and we also take occasional day trips in and around Fort William and but we have also ventured as far as Oban and Iona.

There is also a small reasonably priced café which also provides volunteering opportunities for those interested in helping to prepare and serve the food.
The centre welcomes people referred by health professionals and those who wish to refer themselves.

Sutherland Service – Golspie

Our Sutherland Service, The Gatehouse is situated in the grounds of the Lawson Memorial Hospital in Golspie and is a resource centre offering support to people affected by mental ill health.

We provide social and personal support to people and offer the opportunity for people to get involved in a wide range of activities both within and out with The Gatehouse, all with the aim of promoting mental health recovery.

There is a lounge where service users can relax and meet people.
We also have an arts and crafts room, games room with table games, darts and Wii, as well as the use of a computer with internet connection.
Group outdoor pursuits include gardening, walking and visits to the leisure centre (gym and swimming).
There is also the facility for one-to-one chats/discussions between service user and staff, if required.

I wanted to start a B&B but was scared to answer the telephone or speak to people at the door; one step at a time, still pushing myself to go to the Gatehouse and I found courage to do it. Then I started my business.
