General Information - Mental Illness
Mental illness can cause major disturbances in the way someone thinks, feels and behaves. Life is experienced in ways that seem very different from that of other people.
Caring for someone who has just experienced their first psychotic episode, or for someone living with a long-term illness, can be a stressful and isolating experience.
Finding a source of understanding and support can help with some of those feelings.
Who is a Carer?
Is anybody who looks after a family member, partner or friend who needs help because of their illness. All the care they give is unpaid.
A carer can be anyone. It can be a relative, partner, neighbour or friend.
A carer does not necessarily live with the person they care for.
