The aim of this project is to support friends and relatives in helping those struggling with severe mental health problems.
Mental health problems come in many forms. Sometimes it is easy to see why someone is struggling. Other times, a person's feelings or behaviour can be more difficult to fathom - particularly if they are experiencing a recognised psychiatric condition such as severe Depression or Schizophrenia. While this can be traumatic for the sufferer, it is also difficult for the people who care about him/her.
Close friends, partners and relatives can often feel confused and helpless in the face of their loved one's distress. They too, can need support that is reliable, understanding and practical.
Although we work closely with professionals in health and social work, we are a separate organisation. We treat any information given to us as confidential and will only share it with other agencies with your permission.
The project can help you with:
Information about services, various conditions, treatments, rights etc.
Put you in touch with other people who have experienced similar difficulties - often other friends and relatives have a wealth of knowledge and experience to share.
Advice and support from the project worker. Sometimes it helps to talk to someone who has an understanding of what you are going through. The worker can come out and visit you at home or somewhere else at a time that is convenient to you.
