KIRKCUDBRIGHT man Alastair Grant experienced mud, sweat and cheers as he came through the famous Tough Mudder obstacle course to raise money for Support in Mind Scotland's 1 in 100 Fundraising and awareness campaign.

The Tough Mudder series is one of the toughest obstacle challenges in the world, testing the endurance and strength of participants over an arduous 10-12 mile course.

But Alastair (pictured in action below) and a friend gritted their teeth and completed the challenge and were generous enough to donate £95 to 1 in 100 through our Stewartry Resource Centre in Castle Douglas.

1 in 100 is our new fundraising campaign, we need your support because:

  • 1 in 100 people will experience schizophrenia
  • In addition, estimates suggest that 20% of our population will experience depression at some point in their lives
  • People with schizophrenia are likely to die 15 to 20 years before the rest of us
  • 92% of people with schizophrenia can’t get employment
  • 87% of people with schizophrenia and their families experience discrimination
  • People who experience schizophrenia have better chances with early interventions

How to take part:

  • Decide on your ‘1 IN 100’ it might be doing something for 100 days like giving up chocolate, running a mile a day, convincing 100 people to donate £1 or putting on a theme night and getting 100 people to pay to come along!
  • Register with our website and create your own giving page
  • Let us know when, why and how you're taking part so we can help you publicise your event
  • Share your success. We want to hear all about it so we can tell the world how great you and your supporters are!

How to donate with text giving:

  • You can also support us with text giving
  • Text SIMS10 and your donation to 70070 (e.g. SIMS10 £5)
  • The donation is then added to your mobile phone bill

Your donation will help us continue to:

  • Provide recovery focused services for people with mental health issues
