Latest news Alison's island piano recital plays key role in 1 in 100 ALISON Guest, Support in Mind Scotland's Interim Chair, went down a storm as she defied the extreme weather to put on a piano recital at her island home and raise around £300 for our 1 IN 100 Fundraising and Awareness campaign. Board member Alison gave her piano performance on 3 January on Colonsay, a small island in the Inner Hebrides, for an audience of 20. Her recital was much appreciated, as there are virtually no classical music events on the remote island. There was also the additonal challenge of stormy conditions, which have played havoc with ferries in the area and disrupted the power supply. Alison explained: "I played pieces by Schubert, Mozart, Grieg, Chopin and Rachmaninov and others and then we all had a chat and a glass of wine. "We had an anxious time before we came across, as two ferries were cancelled and we travelled through the aftermath of Storm Frank, taking six hours to get to Oban. "We eventually arrived on Hogmanay and both the house and piano were cold. Then on the day of the concert, our power went off from early morning until lunchtime and we lit our woodburning stove to heat up the house and had candles at the ready. "This is the first solo public performance I have made for many years, so as you can imagine, I was a bit nervous. "But all went well and those who came have asked for it to become an annual event. I spoke about Support in Mind Scotland at the start, before I introduced the pieces." Support in Mind Scotland applauds Alison for her excellent fundraising efforts.
