Island piano recital tops Liszt of recent fundraising events ALISON Guest, a board member of Support in Mind Scotland, held a successful piano recital for friends, family and neighbours in her island home on Colonsay early in the new year and raised £300 for the charity. When Alison held a similar event in aid of SiMS in 2016, the Hebridean island was in the grip of a fierce storm. Fast forward 12 months and the contrast could not have been greater - with Colonsay basking in winter sunshine and looking a picture of calm and serenity, as her photographs illustrate. After entertaining her guests at the concert and talking to them about the work of Support in Mind Scotland, Alison said: "Twenty three people came, including 2 well behaved children who sat mesmerised by it all. "Events like this are rare on Colonsay and everyone was so appreciative. I played quite a selection of pieces, with those by Liszt and Ravel the most popular. After we had drinks and smoked salmon canapés." Meanwhile, one of the stars of our 1 in 100 Fundraising and Awareness Campaign, Stan Dacre, popped into our Kaleidoscope project in Dumfries to present the service with a cheque for £800 after he completed the Pedal for Scotland Challenge last September for Support in Mind Scotland. Well done Stan and thank you for your support. Our 1 in 100 Campaign for 2017 will return on 3 July and run for 100 days until 10 October - World Mental Health Day. We will have a number of significant dates to announce in the weeks ahead, but there will be plenty of events taking place in the weeks and months before the big launch - starting with our Ceilidh in Edinburgh on Friday, February 10.
