SUPPORT in Mind Scotland's 1 in 100 Campaign has gained the support of MSPs and is set to be discussed in the Scottish Parliament after the summer recess.

Lothians MSP Miles Briggs has tabled a motion calling on the Scottish Parliament to welcome the 1 in 100 campaign and to pay tribute to the involvement of Scottish rugby great Scott Hastings and his wife Jenny, who both signed up to the campaign at its launch last week.

The motion has already gained cross-party support from a further 25 MSPs and is due to be raised in the chamber at Holyrood after the Parliamentary recess ends on 4 September.

Mr Briggs was one of a number of MSPs who took to Twitter to praise 1 in 100 after seeing Scott and Jenny Hastings launch our campaign at The Stafford Centre in Edinburgh.

Scott and Jenny, who has herself suffered from episodes of mental ill health, threw their weight behind the campaign and pledged to run 100 streets in one morning to raise funds and awareness for the work that Support in Mind Scotland carries out across 21 projects across the country. They have set up a JustGiving page for their run, which can be accessed HERE.

The motion tabled by Mr Briggs, above, reads:

  • "That the Parliament welcomes Support in Mind Scotland’s 1 in 100 campaign; notes that the campaign was launched in Edinburgh on 4 July 2016 with the support of rugby legend Scott Hastings and his wife, Jenny."
  • "Further notes that the fundraising and mental health awareness campaign is encouraging walkers and runners of all abilities to walk, jog or run 100 miles in 100 days or 100 streets in 1 day and highlighting the link between physical activity and good mental health."
  • "Is aware that the campaign takes its title from the statistic that 1 in 100 Scots has psychosis or schizophrenia, while one in four will have mental ill-health."
  • "Pays tribute to Scott and Jenny for talking publicly about Jenny’s own experiences of mental ill-health, which will help reduce stigma surrounding mental illness."
  • "Wishes all those involved in the campaign, which runs until World Mental Health Day on 10 October, every success."

The motion has been supported by MSPs: Annie Wells, Douglas Ross, Peter Chapman, Alexander Burnett, Oliver Mundell, Liz Smith, John Lamont, Kenneth Gibson, John Mason, Graeme Dey, Richard Lyle, Jeremy Balfour, Jackie Baillie, Bill Kidd, Ivan McKee, Clare Haughey, Alison Harris, Alison Johnstone, Maurice Corry, Margaret Mitchell, Gordon Lindhurst, Jackson Carlaw, Neil Findlay, Clare Adamson, Mary Fee.
