News and opinion Our News World Mental Health Day 2019 World Mental Health Day was first celebrated on October 10, 1992, and is celebrated annually on that day. As we have done in previous years, Support in Mind Scotland is proudly hosting and supporting a number of events across the country to celebrate the occasion. We'll update this roundup throughout the day so you're up-to-date with the action! Comedy Night at the Rotunda, Glasgow We celebrated the day by putting on a first-rate night of standup at the Rotunda in Glasgow. Headed by Support in Mind Scotland ambassador Gary Little, other comedians included resident compere Alan Anderson, George Zach (as seen on BBC One's The One Show), Our Gong Show Champion - Liam Farrelly, and Scottish Comedian of the Year Finalist - Ross Leslie. Profits were kindly donated to mental health charity Support in Mind Scotland. It was a great night, thanks to all who came along! Open Day for new Stewartry Centre The Stewartry resource centre held their official Open Day of their new premises, where members of the health board, medical professionals, other services and community members attended. Ex-footballer and mental health advocate Andy McLaren was there to cut the ribbon, and in total over 70 people came by. The day couldn't have went better! Rural Forum Our Rural Forum spoke at UK Research and Innovation's staff mental health event at Blackford Hill, Edinburgh, to help them get started address mental health and well-being in the workplace. They have a total of over 2,000 staff, so we're thrilled to be involved at this early stage. Edinburgh 10 Members of the Creative Group are taking part in Out of Sight Out of Mind at Summerhall again this year as part of SMHAFF. The exhibition launch is on the 10th of October with a viewing for contributing artists, friends and family which we will be attending. The exhibition is then open to the public from the 11th to 3rd Nov, so be sure to try get along! Lochaber Are going out and about with their music group... to raise awareness of mental health through melody! Stranraer We held a mental health day celebration at the Millennium Centre, where we had a variety of activities, stalls and fun things to do available. Highlands and Islands connections: The HI Connections Western Isles Team will be holding a stall at the Daliburgh Co-Op next week to give out information and raise money for a community talking bench.
