Are you interested in joining an award-winning Scottish charity whose aim is to provide support to people whose lives are affected by mental health problems or illness? Support in Mind Scotland has an exciting new opportunity for someone with a passion for making a positive difference to people’s lives and using their experience and compassion to provide direct support to people living with poor mental health or mental illness, including family members, carers and supporters.

Based in East Kilbride, you will work closely with our volunteer committee and members to support and develop our existing Monthly support group, to ensure that our long-established support group continues to provide essential support to increase social connections and help people tackle loneliness and develop confidence. You will also provide one to one support work outside of the group, and will work collaboratively to reach more people who need support, reaching specifically marginalised and excluded people, raising awareness of the service and of SiMS as a national organisation.

Who are we looking for?

The ideal candidate will have experience of working in mental health and/or will have lived experience of mental health issues as an individual or as a family member. You will understand the need for a compassionate, non-judgemental approach to supporting people and will be committed to fully involving people we support in developing and running the service.

You will have some experience of person-centred planning, and will be able to work with people in a group as well as on a one to one basis. You will be creative and friendly, with an open attitude that will encourage people to participate in activities and overcome feelings of isolation.

You will have good IT skills and be able to use online and digital platforms; and you will be able to keep accurate records, follow policies that keep people safe, and ensure we are able to measure the positive impact our work has on people who use the service.

We are committed to exploring flexible working opportunities which benefit the individual and the charity and are a “Happy to Talk Flexible Employer”: The post is for 21 hours a week worked flexibly between 9 and 5 to fit with the Group’s needs, with occasional hours required outside of these times. This post is home based, with some travel to meet colleagues in Glasgow.

If you are passionate about enabling Support in Mind Scotland to deliver a valuable service to the Scottish community and feel your profile matches this role’s criteria, then we want to hear from you!
