The café at our Companas Cottage service in Alness has undergone an artistic transformation, thanks mainly to one of the service users, Billy, who kindly and creatively led a project to decorate the cafe area.

Sally Mackintosh, Support in Mind Scotland's senior project worker at Companas, explained: "We moved notice boards about and ended up with a large blank wall. The service users and staff decided that we would all together create a work of art that everyone could be part of to fill this large space.

"We decided to use three large split canvases and create a 3D collage. The work took two weeks and everyone who attends Companas played a role. The end result is a spectacular work of art that would not look out of place in a contemporary art gallery."

Above is a picture of the finished work and some of those responsible for its creation. The tree trunk and roots and branches are made from real bark and twigs and all of the flowers are individually handmade from paper, jewels, card, tissue paper and the birds nest from hay and pearls.

Sally added: "We are all delighted with it and it is a real focal point as you enter the room which everyone comments on.”

Well done to everyone at Companas on an impressive display of artistic talent.
