LAST Friday afternoon's lunch at Hunter House was given a very pleasant boost with the award of a cheque from Lloyds TSB.

The donation was a result of the service being chosen as the bank's Charity of the Month, and the cheque for £163, which will be fund-matched to £326, is thanks to the fundraising efforts by TSB staff in the local area. The cheque was presented by Kathryn Henderson to people who use the service and staff at Hunter House in Kirkcaldy.

In addition to the weekly Friday lunch sessions, which are open to anyone, a raft of initiatives and groups are offered in the area.

Fife Hearing Voices Network facilitates peer support groups in Glenrothes, Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath for people experiencing psychosis. The Fife Families project support people who care about someone with mental ill health as well as providing information, and the resilience service provides time focussed behavioural interventions as well as self management group events. In addition, a new 'Suss the Bus' scheme, which enables people with mental health issues that may hinder their ability to make doctors or similar appointments, to use the local bus service and remain linked to and active in their community.
