The third Monday of January has been dubbed in the press Blue Monday - "The most depressing day of the year". However, there is no truth to this claim, and so we want to dispel this myth by turning Blue Monday BRIGHT.

We asked our supporters, service users and staff to join us in brightening up the day by wearing bright clothing, decorating their homes or offices and doing small acts of kindness for others!

We were also treated to a lovely colourful sky in the morning in keeping with the theme, which made for a great start to the day!

Our service in Fort William, the Cothrom Centre really embraced the day by wearing bright jumpers and tops, sporting colourful manicures, with one person even wearing their Christmas jumper because she said it makes her so happy!  They had a singing session singing feel good songs, decorated the walls with  drawings and inspirational quotes, and finished the day with a shared discussion on the theme "Happiness is ...".

At our Kaleidoscope project in Dumfries, George wore his new hat; Sylvia, Emma and Penny wore bright clothes, Pamela baked a bran loaf and Frank added his smile.

We also went along to support "Massage Monday", Active X Backs triple launch event, where they were giving away free massages in exchange for donations to us. Our ambassadors Scott & Jenny Hastings were also there to say a few words about the importance of physical wellbeing in relation to mental health, and to draw the name of the lucky prize winner.   If you want to learn more about Triple X's new app, Massage Membership Service & their Feel Great, Live Longer plan, click here.

Helena Macleod put her own spin on making Blue Monday bright by wearing our very own Mental Health Charity Tartan shawl!

At our National Office in Edinburgh, we wore bright colours and played board games on our lunch break. We even made a Bright Blue Monday playist for the day (you can listen to it here). It was great to all get together for a little while, as we don't always have the chance to do so!

We had a lot of fun brightening up #bluemonday 🌈 💙

But remember, if you did feel blue on Blue Monday, that’s okay too. Mental health doesn’t just come or go because of a date on a calendar. If you ever feel you need support or advice, you can call us on 0131 662 4359 9-5pm Mon - Fri, and for 24 hour support the Samaritans are available on 116 123.
